Why Garfield? you could do much better. Anyway, believe or not, the train gets full enough even farther away than Garfield. But there is a good chance you'll get a seat, but probably not besides your husband. The service is very good, runs on time most of the time, but there are are times that something happens. This year, snow happened a couple of times. If you still have time, consider northern Jersey, closer to the city. Like Hoboken or Montclair. Good luck
